PEX:

The term "PEX" refers to the cross-linked polyethylene molecules, the raw materials used to manufacture PEX tubing. Multiple ethylene molecules are joined together in a chain to make tubing that is very resilient and can operate over wide temperature ranges. This tubing is installed in floors for wet systems or "Hydronic" systems.

Ethylene Monomer (C2H4)

Wet in-floor Hydronic Systems:

Wet systems are installed before the concrete flooring has been poured. Tubing or electric panels/mesh are installed with insulation beneath the system, and the flooring material (gypsum compounds or concrete) is poured over the heating components.

Dry System:

Dry systems are installed after the flooring has been installed, or in locations that would not work well with concrete and other poured materials. The heating components (PEX tubing) are installed under the floorboards with adhesives or staples, or under wood/carpeting/tile floors.
